We received responses from nearly 60% of all parents via our team coaches on our Season Resumption Survey. From those responses, we determined that 75% of parents were in favor of restarting our season sometime between July and October 2020. However, 25% of those that responded said they would prefer to wait until Spring 2021. For the older baseball divisions, the results were more lopsided with nearly 100% of parents favoring resumption this Fall.
Based on those responses, our Board of Directors voted to resume our season in September, sometime after Labor Day, with practices beginning in August. For our Junior Division (13-14 year olds), resumption might begin immediately. Details for Juniors and all other divisions have not been worked out as we are pending approval from the City of Brownsville to use our park for games, as well as other parks for team practices. Details of special protocols are also in the works.
For those parents that wish to wait for Spring 2021, we are asking everyone to allow us to carry over the registration fees that have already been paid as a credit for that season. The main reason for asking is that Little League International and its respective insurance carrier will not issue us a refund of the fees we had already paid them on players behalf. Instead, those fees will be issued as a credit to us for next season.
For those parents who allow us to do so, we will guarantee them a spot on a roster. This is relevant as this season’s registration numbers were almost double what we usually register and even with the addition of the new T-ball - Challenger Field, we were nearly at capacity once again. Next Spring 2021, we expect for our capacity to be reached with the possibility of some players not getting an opportunity to play.
With all this said, know that keeping players, umpires, and fans as safe as reasonably possible will be our priority as we attempt to bring back some normalcy back to our daily lives.
